Oil filters
There’s something floating in the engine ...
A modern lorry, which is expected to have a long life and be able to cover thousands of kilometers and at the same time meet high ecological requirements, is a complex construction working under heavy loads, and requiring the elimination of contamination accelerating mechanical wear.
Oil in an engine fulfils five basic functions:
- reduces friction and wear,
- cools down moving parts,
- caulks,
- keeps the engine clean (detergent and dispersive qualities)
- prevents inner corrosion.
Contaminants present in oil, which accelerate the wear of engine elements, can be divided into:
a) External contaminants
- sand from casting, dust which gets through leaky air filter
- coal combustion products, oil oxidation products, dust coming from friction of metal parts
b) Internal contaminants
Contaminants present in oil cause the moving parts to abrade, block the grease channels and many other things.
Therefore because of the function of the ‘heart’ - an engine, particular attention is paid to oil filters, which have to withstand temperatures up to 200°C and oil pressure up to 16 bars, and at the same time fulfil their main functions:
- filtering as much contamination as possible,
- longer and longer mileage between repairs.
This is the reason why it is worth investing in the Fleetguard filters, which guarantee quality filtration, resulting in reliability of the engine.
